“Qualified English Language Teacher”
30/04/2015 11:25 am
Hi! I'm Rosie: a tutor specialising in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I am happy to work with people of all ages and abilities and willing to tailor a course around your needs. I'm very reliable, enthusiastic and easy to get along with. I graduated last summer and moved to Glasgow in September 2014. I have recently finished a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course at Glasgow University and will be studying a second degree in Speech Therapy at Strathclyde from September. I graduated last year in English Language and Communication from King's College London. My degree course was extremely broad and comprehensive; modules included Phonology and Phonetics, Structural Linguistics, Functional Grammar, Language, Culture and Society, Psychological Processes of Language Acquisition etc. Through the course I developed an understanding of grammatical structures as well as the factors that drive our use of language. During the CELTA course I gained the necessary skills for teaching a class, such as time management, classroom management and grading language appropriately. Whilst completing the course I also developed more of my own style as a teacher. For many years prior to taking the CELTA course I tutored Japanese homestay students. For a period of two-three weeks I would give upto 16 hours of lessons a week. I am also a keen singer/songwriter have performed at several well known venues and events in Glasgow, Manchester. This year I have gained work experience shadowing a speech therapist that was working in schools and with private clients in partnership with Down-Syndrome Scotland. From this, I gained experience working with children learnt the importance of using a client-centered approach. I have experience in childcare: last year I worked as an au pair for a child of 6. This is a job that I have only recently had to give up because of my final exams. During my working hours I was solely responsible for her care: cooking meals, playing games with her, and planning activities such as trips out to museums, and arts and crafts within the home. The job involved creativity and responsibility. Hobbies and Interests: My main hobby is singing/songwriting and playing guitar. I also enjoy travelling and spent last summer backpacking around Europe. Referees: Available on request If you are interested or would like to discuss details, contact me.
